So I’m trolling YouTube, trying to find something both salient and comprehensive to toss onto brijit, when I come across this little number from a security camera in China’s Sichuan Province:
The thing that really caught my eye was the goldfish (there are two, perhaps?) whose bowl sits precariously atop the desk. The whole while, water is splashing around like mad, and the fish is just kinda getting tossed around gentle as can be. From what I can tell, he didn’t even lose much water.
Aside from the unexplainable urge to watch a goldfish get tossed out of his water bowl by the earth itself, I was really struck by the fact that I didn’t know whether a fish can even really experience an earthquake.
I mean, water sloshes around all the time. In fact, when I went snorkeling and then came back out onto land, I was so disoriented from the free-fall of the water that it seemed like the ground beneath me was indeed quaking.
Anyway, I looked it up, and it would appear that no one else gives a damn. Mostly people want to know about pain and memory, ’cause goldfish have a reputation for being dumb, and no one’s really sure how many wives have their fingerprints on that tale.
I did, however, find this little gem from HistoryLink.org.
Don’t you love the internets?
